I just completed some very in-depth research into the link profiles of some competitors hoping to find some secret patterns that I could replicate. Instead, I learned that my original play to focus on great content and not worry about SEO tricks that saturate the blogosphere was the way to go.

The whole point of SEo is to get TARGETED traffic. Too much to go wide is obviously a waste of energy

Like you said, content is the golden egg. Writing good relevant content takes time, so not becoming addicted is a problem, how do you write quality content without putting in a lot of time? You mentioned all the social apps, and this helps, if you write some good articles they will be found out and passed around, keeping them alive for longer and drawing interest to your site.

I agree with you that content is king. I'm not sure I agree completely with your laissez-faire attitude toward link building, however. Being active in online discussions (like this great site) and actively promoting your content is critical. The 'little links' can start the snowball effect toward obtaining the 'bigger links'. I'll finish by saying that I completely agree with your position on "miracle traffic" scams. They're just that - scams. Being genuine and authentic and offering value is the new SEO.

I have found that going back and messing with keyword density and metags, based on what everyone says you should be doing, is a waste of time.
