Accessibility is key to any good web site. Clear and distinctive elements and uncluttered layout are two key points. Make the use of your website less frustrating will usually help keep surfers on your site for longer and help the conversion rate too.

This is definatley true.

All sites no matter how beatiful or elegant need to provide a sound user interaction.

I think its also important to keep standard site features where the user would expect to find them. If we want to sign in to a site's customer area we immediately look to the top right. If we want to find our way back to the homepage and are looking for the logo we look top left.

These actions are the same as looking above a shop to view the shop name.

These 'rules' should never imapct the site design however, we can easily be creative with fixed elements and use them to our visual advantage.
